I wanted to take a moment to tell you that you don't have to be an expert to make cute and delicious cupcakes. Here are the most simple tips to making cupcakes at home... First, when filling the cupcake trays, only fill 3/4 the way full. (Pictured below are butter pecan cupcakes) 
Place in oven for the time given. When you take them out they should look like this... 
Now take them out too cool before applying icing. 
After they are completely cooled you can put icing on them. Even if you don't have a piping bag they can still look pretty by using a butter knife. Just smooth the icing around in one direction and then pull towards the middle and up. (There is a video further down in the blog that shows how to do this) 
Finally, you can add some sprinkles, candy peices or edible flowers (if you have them) to add that extra touch!
